Welcome to our Peter Muschal Art Studio!

Hello from the ART ROOM!

Hi! Welcome to our ART ROOM! I'm Ms. Sakowski and this will be my 14th year here at Peter Muschal. Please feel free to email me at ksakowski@bordentown.k12.nj.us

anytime you have any questions, I check my email daily and will be able to respond quickly

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Due to the decision to continue with Virtual Learning over concerns for health and safety during COVID-19 (Coronavirus), I am providing lessons on Google Classroom for your child so they can continue with their art education. These lessons will include a variety of instruction, activity, and response including: assigned recorded read alouds and videos on youtube, teacher recorded demonstrations and instructions, Flip Grid response questionnaires, Google Forms assessments, and a paper Art Sketchbook that you will pick up when you retrieve your child's school materials. Please review the information on the first few pages of your sketchbook over the weekend.

You can also join and access your child's Google Classroom for ART by using the hyperlink or classroom codes provided below.

What will the ART SCHEDULE look like for Virtual Learning?

While we are learning virtually students will be following their regular weekly Humanities schedule. For Humanities will be working with 4 Week Lesson BLOCKS where students will need to complete 1 Music, 1 Library, 1 Art, 1 Spanish and 2 Physical Education classes each week.

The first 3 weeks of each BLOCK will include 3 NEW Art Lessons (1 per week). To accommodate for days off (including days missed due to holidays or illness) we have built a “Flex Week” or “Catch-Up Week” every 4th week of each block so students can catch up on assignments they may have missed on these days.

If your child is all caught up on Art during the "Flex Week" and are looking for additional fun extension activities you can use the "Art Sketchbook Challenges" tabs to the right and click on your child's grade level tab for additional Sketchbook Challenges. These are optional and fun!

Some changes:

  • Unlike in the Spring of last year, assignments will not be solely choice-based.  Starting this school year, Fall 2020, ALL ART ASSIGNMENTS will be posted on Google Classroom and will follow the New Jersey State Curriculum for Visual and Performing Arts.
  • Also, unlike in the Spring of last year, Art assignments will not be required to be submitted every week on Artsonia.  Although we will still use Artsonia occasionally at the end of a unit to submit completed project work, it will be announced in the assignment when art assignments completed in the Art Sketchbook workbook need to be submitted.  The format for this will likely be a Flip Grid video in which students will show each assignment in the unit and respond to question prompts verbally in a short video. If you or your child would prefer NOT to record a video for assignment submission, there will be alternative options to submit photographs and written responses on an individual basis.

Notes:

~I would like to recommend every student have an ART SMOCK. This could be as simple as an old t-shirt or an apron, the important thing is that it covers the clothing to make sure the kids look as good leaving the room as they did coming in.

~As students begin making their artwork I would like to invite you to view your child/children’s work online through the use of the Artsonia.com website. Through Artsonia you can view pictures I upload as well as upload your own to build an online portfolio for each budding artist.

IMPORTANT: In the past I was able to grant permission for your child’s artwork to be published through a written permission slip from you, HOWEVER, new technology guidelines require the PARENTS/GUARDIANS to create and online account and give permission online before I can upload any artwork. If you are new to Artsonia and wish to participate please create an account for your child as soon as possible using the information that was stapled to the "Beginning of the Year" letter that went home in your child's folder, if your child already has an account with me, please make sure you have activated it so you can see when artwork is published. If you need the information to activate your existing account please email me and I will get it to ASAP.
