Expectations Vs. Rules
Expectations tend to focus on the things your students can do whereas rules often focus on the things students can’t do.

At Peter Muschal Elementary School, we have three expectations for all of our students and staff;

  • Be respectful at all times
  • Be accountable at all times
  • Be productive at all times

Schoolwide Matrix

We have created a schoolwide matrix that helps to communicate our expectations here in school. Our staff will focus on using specific language that focuses on positive behavior and outcomes and students are provided incentives to work towards academic and social expectations.

Classroom
  • Raise your hand to speak.
  • Use your inside voice.
  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  • Be polite to others.
  • In your seat when the bell rings.
  • Pay attention in class.
  • Follow directions.
  • Complete your assignments.
  • Have all materials needed.
  • Listen to directions, discussions, and announcements.
  • Do your work to the best of your ability.
  • Participate in discussions.
  • Ask questions.

Hallways 
  • Walk at all times.
  • Stay in your line.
  • Use” 6-Inch” voices.
  • Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  • Go directly to your destination.
  • Only in the hallway when instructed or with permission.
  • Listen and follow directions.
  • Eyes and body facing forward. 
  • Keep your hands to yourself at all times.

Cafeteria
  • Say please and thank you.
  • Only touch and eat your food.
  • Wait your turn in line.
  • Sit in the assigned area.
  • Raise your hand for help.
  • Keep food/drink in the cafeteria.
  • Pick up trash around you (even if it is not yours).
  • Sit in the assigned area.
  • Remained seated until dismissed.
  • Get all necessary items while in line.

Restrooms
  • Give others privacy.
  • Use a quiet voice.
  • Wait your turn.
  • Flush toilets.
  • Wash and dry hands.
  • Put trash in cans.
  • Return to class quickly.
  • Notify staff of any problems or concerns.

Playground & Outside
  • Wait your turn.
  • Listen to adults.
  • Show good sportsmanship.
  • Take care of equipment. 
  • Report unsafe behavior.
  • Return equipment.
  • Listen for instructions.
  • Be aware of your area.
  • Line up at the appropriate time.
  • Be safe at all times.
