Writing Workshop

My goal in Language Arts is for the children to become enthusiastic and fluent writers. Following the steps of the Writers Process will be emphasized.  These include prewriting, creating a 1st draft, revising, editing, proofreading and publishing. Various opportunities for writing will be provided.  Some include journaling, formal and informal writing, and participation in Writers' Workshop. Grammar skills will be reinforced through mini-lessons within the Writers' Workshop.  Vocabulary will be reinforced using vocabulary books.  Writing workshop includes a mini-lesson where a writing strategy is taught, students will then independently write and conference with me or peers, and then share.

We are starting with a Launching Writer’s Workshop Unit. This consists of learning routines and procedures in the workshop. Students are introduced to the routines of writing workshop and the organization of the writer’s notebook.
