Physical Education School Closing Plan


Students are required to engage in physical education and/or health activities and lessons for 150 minutes per week.  Therefore, we are requiring your child to engage in physical activity for 30 minutes per day each weekday.  Please fill in the activity log daily listing the date, activity completed, time doing the activity, and parent signature.  When school resumes, please take a picture of the complete log, and email it to your child’s PE teacher.  DO NOT RETURN ANY PAPER COPIES to minimize the spread of any germs. Thank you!

Below we have included warm-up exercise, stretches, a list of suggested activities, and some internet resources for your reference.  Your child is not limited to the physical activities we have listed and may engage in other activities that increase his/her heart rate. 

 

I will also be hosting live videos on a live workout page. This is not mandatory. If anyone would like to tune into exercise, they may. It is like having Mr. D'Annunzio in your living room working out with you!  On this site, kids are free to post exercises that they have done as well, with your parents permission, of course! 


Warm-up Exercise Examples: 

  • 10 jumping jacks
  • 10 lateral jumps
  • 10 arm circles forward
  • 10 arm circles backward
  • 10 lunges with for each leg
  • 30 crunches 
  • 30 seconds of planks 2 times
  • 5 push-ups

  • Basketball- Shoot baskets with a sibling or play a game such as HORSE or Knock Out

Assessment:

  • As stated above, students should keep track of their physical activity each day on their fitness log and record how much time they participated in the activity. 
  • Parents, please take a picture of the fitness log and email your physical education teacher a copy of the entire fitness log, at the completion of the two weeks of fitness. Thank you so much for your help!

March
 
All students in grades K-5 will participate in Jump Rope for Heart/Hoops for heart. Students in our lower grades will learn to tie their shoes. The students in our lower grades will also participate in short roping, long roping, and other forms of jumping. Students in our upper grades will participate in relays and basketball lead up games. Students in our upper grades will also have the choice to participate in jump roping if they wish!
 
All students will also participate in St Patrick Day Games in the gymnasium.
 
 
 
February
 
Students in our lower grades (K-1) will participate in a game called brickworks, where students work on riding scooters and learning to count and build towers. Our lower grades will also participate in Cage ball and another cooperative game called, Creature Extravaganza!
 
Students in our upper grades (2-5) will participate in floor hockey. Students in these grades will learn the proper grip on a hockey stick, learn how to pass and stick handle, and the proper way to shoot on goal! They will even get the opportunity to be in goal!! Students in our upper grades will also participate in Cage ball and another cooperative game called, Around the World Mission Impossible.

January
 
Welcome back to School! Happy New Year 2020!
 
This month in all classes we will participate in basketball stations. We will learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot a basketball.  Students in our lower grades (K-1) will learn these basics while participating in a game called "Make it, Take it". Students in our upper grades (2-5) will continue to learn the basics while being challenged in two games. The first game is called "Make it, Take it". The second game is called "Basket Bowl". 
Students will also participate in parachute games. Some games include climb the mountain, cats and mice, and rainbow. 
 
 
December
 
    Hello December! 
    This month in PE class all grades will participate in a cooperative game called "Connect Four".  Students will ride scooters in this game and work together connecting four foam pieces in a row into a game board.  It is very similar to the board game "Connect Four". All students will also participate in our Winter/Holiday Stations.  These stations will allow students to explore various ways of moving their bodies or throwing/catching skills.

November
 
    So far, we have a blast in physical education this year!  We are proud that are new Kindergartners are remembering their warm-up spots in the gymnasium.  It is not an easy task!  Our upper grades, second graders through fifth graders,  will begin fitness testing. We will practice the pacer test and the flexibility test in the gymnasium. We will also participate in a number of cooperative games.  Some games include Clean Up Your Backyard and Mission Impossible.
Our younger grades, kindergartners and first graders, will participate in cooperative games which include Clean Up Your Backyard and Mission Impossible.  We will really focus on loco motor movements as well.

The students at Peter Mushcal Elementary School have been busy in the gym!   The students are learning the expectations, goals,and  routines.  We will continue to teach personal and general space to the kindergarten students.  We will also teach them pathways and various loco-motor movements.  The students will move into soccer skills in October.  The students in first through fifth grades are working on soccer skills and using them in various soccer lead up games.  We will also participate in our Halloween/Autumn Stations.

Look forward to seeing all of your shining faces in physical education class! 

All children in grades Pre K-5 will have physical education twice per week. It is important to follow your child's physical education schedule when preparing their outfit.
 
Dress code: Children should wear comfortable clothes, athletic wear for physical education class. Sneakers should also be worn in class. If a child is not wearing the proper dress wear, they will not be able to participate in the activity for that day.
 
Rules:
1) Follow all rules.
2) Respect the teacher and each other.
3) Wear sneakers.
4) Safety First!

June News!!!!!!
 
 
It is the last month of the year. Our field day is quickly approaching. On Thursday, June 6th we will be having field day. Our morning session is for our Preschool-First Graders. Our morning session goes from 10:00-11:45aam. Our afternoon session is for our second and third graders. Our afternoon session goes from 1:00-2:45p.m. Look forward to seeing all parents and friends at field day!  
 
 
 
May News
     The students at Peter Muschal Elementary have been working on the skills of throwing, catching, striking,and volleying. The students played frisbee, floor hockey, and softball games.   In May, we will learn field day games in Pre-K through third  grade.  The fourth and fifth graders will learn cooperative games and skills.

April is almost here! The warmer days are almost here!
 
In physical education class, we have three young ladies from The College of New Jersey and Rowan University who will be assisting with our activities.
Dana Scherer and Liz Anderson are two sophomore's from The College of New Jersey. 
Kristen Vladyka is a junior who attends Rowan University. 
Now that you know about our additions, here is our PE lineup for physical education class!

 March is here! Are you ready to have a blast in Physical Education Class?
 
Our kindergartners through second graders will participate in striking stations as well a throwing and catching games! 
Our third graders through fifth graders will continue to improve on their fitness. Student will be tested on their pacer test and flexibility test. We will also explore new tag games and and new cooperative games!

It's February!!!!
Here is a brief summary of what we will be learning in February. 
All grades will participate in parachute games. Parachute games consist of Cat and Mouse, Climb the Mountain, and Popcorn Mania. 
Our Kindergartners through first graders will explore various cooperative games. 
Our second graders through fifth graders will participate in volleyball. We will learn the correct form of setting and bumping, spiking, serving, and rotation.

Happy New Year! 
Here is a brief summary of what we will be learning in January.
We will also learn the correct way to dribble, pass, and shoot a basketball.
Our third graders through fifth graders will be participating in basketball and volleyball. Our basketball games include poly spot basketball and basket bowl. We will learn the correct form of dribbling, passing, and shooting a basketball.

In December, our kindergarteners through first graders will participate in scooter challenges, connect four, holiday stations and cooperative games. Our second graders through fifth graders will participate in a game called steal the rings, connect four, holiday stations, and cooperative games. Our students our have a blast in physical education class this year!
Please remind your children to bring their sneakers with them to physical education class even when it snows out!  Thank you.

We have had a blast in physical education so far this year. Our students will participate in throwing and catching activities. Our second graders through fifth graders will participate in football stations, football challenges and water polo (no water needed). We will also participate in a game called cage ball! 
Our Kindergartners and first graders will participate in a game called Catch 100. In this game, students are throwing and catching various objects including foam balls, bouncy balls, flying rubber fish, and foam frisbees We will also participate in a game called cage ball!

Pre-K- Kindergarten- Students will transition into the new school year by learning their squads, rules in physical education, pathways and participation in various loco motor activities. 
1-3- Students will transition into the new school year by learning their squads, rules in physical education, and will continue to explore various movement games. Students may participate in tag games. 
3-5- Students will be participate in a Soccer Unit. Skills taught will include performing an instep kick, trapping, shooting on goal, dribbling, and participating in a game of sideline soccer.
