Social Health

4/30 (Thursday) Social Health

Alternate Activity

Social Health is one part of the health triangle. Social health includes having strong communication skills and working together as a team. In the gymnasium, we have played many games that involve being good leaders and using strong communication skills.  One game in particular is Mission Impossible! In this game, you work together as a team to accomplish a goal.

Unfortunately, we cannot do a team activity today.  However, the following activity involves you doing a partner activity. This activity can be done with a brother or sister or with a parent.

Assignment

Picture Activity – You will be the leader. Draw a picture of something simple or another number phrase as seen here. A simple drawing might be; 0--------0  or you can draw a stick figure person.  Draw a simple picture for your partner to copy. Do not show your partner your drawing. Describe your drawing to your partner. Your partner then must draw what they hear.  Students are allowed to ask questions following the description on the paper. The person that responds to the questioning can only use yes or no responses.  When you are asking questions, please keep this in mind. You need to do “2” pictures with your partner.

Examples of Questions

-          Does your person have curly hair?

-          Does your person have a smile?

Assignment

  •         Show the “2” pictures you have drawn to your partner.
  •         Answer the following question.

Was your partner able to draw your picture?

Was the assignment easy or hard? Why?

Procedure-  5/7 (Thursday) Conflict Resolution

Scenario 1- Mr. D’Annunzio drops the answers of a health test on the floor in the gymnasium. One person finds the test and shares the test with their four friends. One person in the group doesn’t feel comfortable looking at the answers. That person is peer-pressured by the other students. All but one person decides not to cheat on the test the day after.

Scenario 2- A new student has joined your class. Three students begin to pick on and bully the person who is new to the school. Another person close by recognizes that the bullying is happening and they step in to stop the bullying from occurring.

Please write your Skit Here!

Lesson Plan

Class Procedure Activity- Conflict Resolution

Good Morning Boys/Girls. If we were in school, we would be acting out our skits using strong conflict resolution skills. Unfortunately, we will have to modify that lesson since we are not in school.

For today’s activity, I would like you to write about the  “One” conflict you experienced at home or in school. If it is a conflict you experienced at home, your conflict might have something to do with a brother or sister or maybe even a parent. If it is a conflict you experienced at school, your conflict might have something to do with a friend, or maybe even a teacher.

In paragraph form (4-6 sentences), write about your conflict, describing in detail. What happened in the conflict? Who was involved in your conflict? What were both sides in regarding the conflict? What was the end result of the conflict?

Hopefully, you used conflict resolution skills. Include what conflict resolutions skills were present in your particular conflict!
