Students will love all of the activities we have planned for February!
To begin the month, students in grades Pre-K through 1st will be playing a cooperative game called Brick Works. In this game, students will use scooters to collect bricks for their team so that they can construct a building, form a letter, or make a word. During the second week of February, students will participate in 100th day and Valentine's day themed stations. Students will complete 00th day exercises, stack 100 cups, have a Valentine's Day relay, and so much more! The following week, we will be playing Cage Ball in which the students will have to move in the crab walk position and try to score points for their team. We will then end the month playing Creature Extravaganza. In this game, students will work cooperatively to collect creatures from the opposing team using various locomotor movements.
During the first two weeks of February, students in 2nd through 5th grade will be playing floor hockey. Our first week will focus on learning the fundamental skills necessary to play hockey. Students will participate in stations to learn and practice proper stick handling, dribbling, passing, and shooting skills. The second week of February will consist of situational hockey games. For the second half of the month, students will play cooperative games. We will be playing Cage Ball in which the students will have to move in the crab walk position and try to score points for their team. We will also play Around the World Mission Impossible. In this game, students will have to choose their equipment and move from county to country (mat to mat) around the gym as a team. This game will h help students work on balance, agility, communication, and cooperation.
Welcome back to School! Happy New Year 2020!
We will begin the month with various basketball activities. All of the children will learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot a basketball using proper form and techniques. Students in our lower grades (K-1), the children will learn basic ball handling skills by performing movement around the gym and through participation in basketball stations and games. Students in our upper grades (2-5) will continue to learn the basics while being challenged in two games. The first game is called "Make it, Take it." The second game is called "Basket Bowl."
During the final two weeks of the month, students will participate in parachute games. Some games will include Climb the Mountain, Cats and Mice, and Rainbow.
This month in PE class all grades will participate in a cooperative game called "Connect Four." Students will ride scooters in this game and work together connecting four foam pieces in a row into a game board. It is very similar to the board game "Connect Four." All students will also participate in our Winter/Holiday Stations. These stations will allow students to explore various ways of moving their bodies. Other stations will focus on throwing and catching skills.
