Some of our 4th and 5th graders joined author/illustrator Vashti Harrison for her FlipGrid Virtual Field Trip on Wednesday afternoon for World Read Aloud Day. Vashti was so engaging and shared all about her creative processes. She looks for inspiration in everyday things that she sees all around her. I hope everyone enjoyed her presentation. Next up is author Derrick Barnes on February 17th and All About Polar Bears on February 26th. If you missed it, keep an eye on the google classroom stream for more information on these upcoming FlipGrid Virtual Field Trips.

We have a winner...the 2021 Caldecott Award goes to:
We Are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom and illustrated by Michaela Goade.
The book sends an urgent message to safeguard the Earth's water from harm. Micheala Goade is the first Indigenous illustrator to win a Caldecott and her pictures are amazing. We will read this book during the month of February in Library Class.
The 2021 Newbery Award goes to:
When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller
This is an incredible Fantasy Fiction story. Would you make a deal with a magical tiger? I'll introduce this book to the students during our, new "First Chapter Friday" series to begin soon.
